This Book Has Worms In It!: Heart of Darkness By Joseph Conrad
In the wake of my excitement for the next Grady novel to
drop, I passed the time listening to “Heart of Darkness” that was
mentioned in my Critical Writing course as a novel that didn’t age well because of its rampant and blatant racism and imperialism that was commonplace at the time.
I wanted to see what all the hubbub was about. Surprisingly, it didn’t bore the shit out of me because within the first chapter it was a blistering reminder of high school AP English. Then a wave of ease flowed over me because I wouldn’t have to dissect and analyze this piece of racist ass work.
I personally felt that it was very well written, context aside. It is loosely based on Apocalypse Now, a connection I didn’t even make until the 2nd Chapter! Completing it in one sitting I was happy to have gotten it over with. You can’t pick up a book like this to pass the time, it’s solely used for learning purposes or you can just watch Apocalypse Now to get the same feeling. Believe me, it’s much more entertaining.
You can find Joseph Conrad and all his works online or where ever books are sold.
