TONIGHT!: Fuck It Once and It Follows You For Life

TONIGHT!: Fuck It Once and It Follows You For Life
It Follows, 2014

That’s the first thing I think about when crossing paths with my former long-time significant other. You have to say fuck it to most things. Taking a chance at eternal happiness will always have its risks. There are moments when you are assured you’ll be content and then become overwhelmed by your entrapment. We crotch hopping youths had no time for that shit. Nor nothing to fear aside from the usual nightmares. To create a fear of one fuck that you’d hit once, and it follows you for life is a public service announcement a lot of jackasses need.

My first viewing of this movie didn’t sit well with me. I have been a miserable adult for so long that I can’t even reflect on my isolated festering version of my younger years and emulate for 100 minutes. I thought the story was exciting but ridiculous. I have this dumb habit of taking everything for face value, and my imagination didn’t want to see it for anything else than it was; a dumb movie.

But now, I have to take that back. The amount of effort this took from paper to screen is one of the many reasons I love the stories movies tell. The characters were all easy on the eyes and couldn’t have been any better as flaccid whippersnappers running away from invisible monsters in lively Detriot. The fact that sex was the villain was an interesting touch. When you’re that young, it’s easy to get carried away. The massive outpour of strong emotions confuses what love is and can be to some. And where that love comes from.

I enjoyed this time around.
